THE PRESIDENTS COLUMN

Thanks for coming to our pond for the August meeting. Always great to see y'all again. Thanks also, to whoever brought those sweet, delicious homegrown grapes to share and the brownies were great too. Both were a welcome and unexpected surprise.

Another unexpected surprise was the beautiful Koi that Tom & Tee Wright brought for our ticket drawing. I was lucky enough to win the beautiful 6" Goshiki that they brought from Inland Koi. Many thanks Tom & Tee. The other small Koi for our drawing were from The Pond Source in Carlsbad. Support these fine Koi suppliers when you can. Allen Bailey of Creative Waterscapes had a brief but informational program on creating Waterfalls and has an extensive website of ponds with varieties of rock formations both natural and manmade rock. He looks for a pleasing large rock or formation, makes a mould of it and creates this rock of fiberglass and other materials that look very real. Matter of fact I believe 2 of our waterfall rocks are his design.

Linda gathered enough help to do a major workday sloshing around the Japanese Friendship Garden and the pictures are on our website. Check them out along with all the other features that Sig Porter, our webmaster works on to show our club to the world.

The BIG word these days in "Koidom" is the AKCA Seminar and San Diego Koi Show. Never before done together but Dr.Galen Hansen has spearheaded these 2 venues and with all the talent and willing hands, it's coming together very nicely. Be prepared for Feb. 12 thru 15th of '09. We will need your assistance in many areas to make this a "Really Big Show".

Cheryl'Ann Padilla has volunteered to make coverings for all the blue tubs used at our Koi Show. Big job for a terrific gal. Thanks Cheryl'Ann. The next 2 local events that could use your help is our booth at the South Bay Green Scene August 30th 9AM-4PM and at the Wild Animal Park Garden Festival Saturday October 4th &/or October 5th. Free admission and you can spend the rest of your day there with just a 2 hr. booth time. Whatta Deal!

We're planning another in club table auction, probably in December so save up things you'd want to donate and others want to buy such as Koi related or other items. Always a fun time as we depart with our treasures.

See you at the Padillas in September.
