Meetings are held on the second Sunday of each month at members’ homes, and we welcome you to join us if you have an interest in koi or are thinking of building a pond. Typical meeting programs include how to select young koi, what to feed your koi, pond filtration, water plants, and many more koi topics. Our members, who are always willing to share their knowledge with others, range from beginners building their first pond to experts on water quality, pond construction, koi health, and selecting koi.
The Koi Club of San Diego's Annual Open Koi Show is one of the largest in the United States with 300 to 400 koi competing for awards before a prestigious international team of judges. At the show people come together not only to celebrate the finest koi but to renew friendships with koi keepers from around the world. The Koi Show is the major event in our year, but we are an active group and also take part in picnics, potlucks, dealer tours, koi auctions, and pond tours. Some of us even travel around the country to visit other koi clubs and koi shows.
Our club is a member of the Associated Koi Clubs of America, a network of over 100 clubs. AKCA trains and certifies koi judges, researches koi health problems, publishes a magazine, KOI USA, and holds an annual meeting open to all club members. AKCA and KOI USA provide the links that connect us with the U.S. koi community, including the dealers that provide us with our pond supplies and our favorite fish.
